Compliance with the London Plan
At CCA Environmental, we provide energy and sustainability consultancy for developers looking to achieve zero-carbon status for their upcoming building projects in London. The latest version of the London Plan came into effect in 2021 and it sets out ambitious plans for the city to become carbon net zero in the future. This will require developers to focus more on sustainable building practices that use passive and active design measures to keep buildings cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
The London Plan will affect all residential and commercial developments within Greater London with planning approval only given to applications that can deliver zero carbon status. At CCA Environmental we can carry out a full range of studies and surveys including energy strategies, overheating analysis, life cycle assessments, and sustainability statements.
Expert Energy And Sustainability Consultants In London
Established in 2005, CCA Environmental have a wealth of experience in the building industry specialising in sustainability and compliance with environmental regulations. We offer clients a huge range of energy and sustainability services, from dynamic simulation and thermal modelling and overheating analysis to TM54 operational energy performance calculations and L2A compliance. Our team can help develop London Plan energy and sustainability strategies for all types of developments across the city.
As part of the London Plan, all new small domestic and non-domestic developments need to achieve a minimum of a 35% reduction in carbon emissions beyond Part L standards. At CCA Environmental we can help guide your development to ensure that your project meets these stringent requirements. Our team can help you navigate the planning process for all new developments and ensure that you follow the energy hierarchy of the London Plan to Be Lean, Be Clean, and Be Green.
Understanding the London Plan Energy Hierarchy
As part of the London Plan, all developments will need to have an energy assessment carried out to show how they will minimise their carbon dioxide emissions in line with the Be Lean, Be Clean, and Be Green energy hierarchy.
Our team of energy and sustainability consultants can provide full guidance on all aspects of the hierarchy as well as providing carbon emission calculations for all types of commercial and domestic developments.
Be Lean
This part of the energy hierarchy focuses on reducing a building’s energy demand by using passive and active design measures which include site orientation, solar shading, mechanical ventilation, and highly efficient lighting.
Be Clean
The Be Clean stage looks at the heating infrastructure and that the energy supplied is as efficient as possible. This can include connection to an existing area-wide heat network or communal district heating systems.
Be Green
Be Green is the final stage of the hierarchy and this covers the generation of renewable energy by using solutions such as solar photovoltaic panels, biomass boilers, wind turbines, or heat pumps. On-site renewable energy should help to reduce carbon emissions by at least 20%.
